Story of A Wise King

short story about the wisdom of an emperor
In the city of a country, there lived a young man named Veeravara. He was brave and intelligent. He longed of adventure and when he was eighteen years old, he took up a job on ship so that he could travel and see other countries. He travelled to many places on the ship and had many adventures. One day, a storm hit the sea, the ship tossed about everyone was thrown overboard, including veeravara. He managed to clutch on to a piece of wood and save his life. As he was floating in the sea, he lost consciousness. When at last he woke up, he found himself lying on the sandy shore of an unknown island, under the piercing rays of the sun.

Glad to be alive, he got up. He was on a large island, and some miles inland he could see a city. Veeravara started walking in that direction. When he reached the city, to his surprise, he was greeted by a great crowd that cheered him. He did not know what happening. An elephant was brought forward and he was made to sit on his back. A sad-looking man was also sitting there silently.  The elephant marched towards a palatial building. Veeravara asked the old man, “Why do the people welcome a stranger like me in this grand fashion? What are they celebrating, and where are they taking me?”

The old man now looked sadder. “This is an unusual island,” he explained. “The people here are very intelligent but they have some funny rules. They are prosperous but they don’t have a king. They feel that if they choose a king from within themselves, he will be partial. So they wait for an unknown person to come to this island. When someone like you, a shipwrecked traveller, gets washed to the shore, they make him their king. They are taking us to the palace. You are our new king now.”  “What happens to the previous king? And who are you?” Veeravara asked. “I was the king till you came along. The old king given a day to teach the now one the ropes. Then he is sent off to the next deserted island, where he has to look after himself. That’s the rule.” Saying this, the old man pointed to an island. Veeravara could see it was covered with dense forest. Now he realized why the old man was sad.

Veeravara was crowned king with great pomp. He quickly learnt his new job and became a good and fair king. But deep inside, a little part of him remained unhappy. When would the next shipwrecked person show up and he be sent off to the other island to live till the end of his days with wild animals and other retired kings?

As he thought about this, he came up with an idea. As long as he was the king, he had absolute power. He ordered his men to go the island and clear a part of the forest. Then he ordered reads and houses to be built. Soon there were roads, shops and pretty little houses on the island. People would go to the forest and see the wild animals; they gathered honey and fruit from the trees, and in a few years, the island was no longer deserted but a cheerful little town.

Now Veervara was not worried at all. When the next king appeared, he would not have to fend for himself in the forest. Instead, he would live in a little cottage and grow vegetables. Years passed and he got older. The people loved him and were sad whenever they thought he would no longer be their king. Then one day Veervara called his people and said, “It is good when you make a person from outside the island a king. He is fresh and unbiased. But this may not always be a good idea. What if the next person who comes here is a crook? You will make him king without knowing anything about him. Instead, let’s have a system where the cleverest people of this island are chosen and rule the place together. Then no one person will have absolute power, and if one of them turns out dishonest, you can always remove him from the council.” The islanders liked the idea, and in a few days, chose their new rulers. Veervara handed over the kingdom to them and retired happily to his cottage, where he stayed till the end of his days.

Then he saw an entirely different sight. A man in yellow robes was walking along the street. There was no trace of sadness on his radiant face, instead it shone with peace. He was monk who had given up the world to escape the misery of life.
Siddharth wanted to find out why there was so much suffering in the world. He wanted to find out how men could be free of misery. Wishes of Stone cutter

Wishes of Stone cutter

This is a short story blog. It contains best motivational inspirational short stories.
best motivational story of stone cutterOnce upon a time there lived a stone cutter in a small village. He worked hard through the day, preparing the shapes that were ordered by his customers. His hands were rough and his clothes were dirty. One day he went to the mountain to cut a big stone. It was difficult to work as the weather was extremely hot. After working for several hours, he sat down in the shade of a nearby tree and soon fell asleep. After sometime, he heard the sound of a procession. He woke up and saw many soldiers and attendants walking in the sun, alongside the king who not only rode an elephant but also had an umbrella to keep the sun away. “How wonderful it must be to be a king”, thought the stone cutter. He wondered how happy would he be if he were the king instead of a poor stone cutter. As he thought so, a strange thing happened. The stone cutter found him dressed in silk clothes and shining jewels. His hands were soft and he was sitting on the elephant. He looked around at the attendants and thought, “how easy it is to be a king, these people are here to serve me.” The precession moved on and the sun grew hotter.
The stone cutter, now the king, became too warm for comfort. He asked the precession to stop so that he could rest for some time. At once the chief of the soldiers bent before the king and said, “Your Majesty, this morning you swore to have me hanged to death if we did not reach the palace before the sun set.” The stone cutter felt sorry for him and let the precession go on its way again. “I am powerful, it is true, but how more powerful the sun is. I would be the son rather than a king”, he thought. At once, he became the sun, shining down on the earth.

Its new power was hard to control. It shone too brilliantly and burned up the fields with its rays. But no matter how hard it shone, it could not see through the clouds. I was evident that the clouds were even stronger and more powerful than the sun. The sun wished that if would rather be a cloud. Suddenly it found itself turned into a huge dark cloud. It started using its new power. It poured rain down on the fields and caused floods. All the trees and houses were swept away but the boulder, which once it had been cutting when it was a stone cutter was unmoved and unchanged. No Matter how hard it poured down on the stone, the stone did not move.

The cloud wondered, “That rock is more powerful than I am. Only a stone cutter could change the rock by his skill.” No sooner had it said these words, he found himself setting on a stone. He picked up his tools and began working.

“The best man in the whole tribe is Manure (Boy name) the brave”, everyone would say. You could see for yourself, at any time of the day, just how brave he was. He could jump to the ground from amazing heights, he would fight poisonous snakes, and he would catch scorpions with his bare hands, and could cut the palm of his own hand with a knife-without even a monkey.
One day, they happened upon each other in the forest, and Manure was showing Potomac (girl name) a coral snake he had just caught, when there began a downpour, the likes of which no one had ever seen. The both ran to shelter themselves under some thick foliage, and there they stayed until the rain had stopped.

However, when they were about to leave the shelter, they heard the roar of a tiger, at a distance of only a couple of meters. The foliage was very thick and dense, and the tiger wouldn’t be able to get though it to attack them. However the tiger was almost at the entrance hole. If it happened to come in and find the two tribesmen there, they certainly wouldn’t get out alive. Manure was getting restless. He wanted to get out of that tight hole, and his great hunting skills. Potomac was gesturing at him to keep still and be quiet, but Manure, tired of being stuck with a coward, leap out of the thicket, surprising the tiger.

The tiger suffered a couple of deep wounds, but soon recovered and hurt Manure with two swipes of its paw, throwing him to the ground. The tiger took the initiative, and leapt upon Manure, but Minute’s spear, in the hands of Potomac, interrupted the tiger’s attack. The tiger turned away, wounded, but the spear moved as fast as a beam of light, and with incredible precision, hurting the animal again and again, until it fell to the ground, lifeless.
Manure, shocked, and bleeding freely from his injuries, witnessed all his while lying flat on his back on the ground. Never before had he seen anyone take on a tiger, and use the spear with such calmness and strength, as he had seen Potomac do just now. Neither of them said a thing. Minute’s grateful expression needed no words to be understood. Nor did they need words to know about Potomac’s wounded hand, or the fact that they were leaving a tiger skin there in the forest.

From that day on, people gradually remarked less on Minute’s braveness. They thought May ne he was less courageous than before. The strangest thing was that they now noticed that manure’s old spear was among Potomac’s things. But Manure just smiled, and remembered the day he learned that true bravery lay not in seeking out danger, but in controlling one’s fear when danger crosses your path.

Stolen Ruby : Short Story

Stolen Ruby

The Sun, while going on his daily rounds saw a princess and fell in love with her. Whenever he could slop away from the heavens he would take human form and go down to the princess to spend some time with her. The princess too became quite fond of him and would wait for him to come. One day the Sun decided to send her a blood-red ruby as a token of his love for her. He put the gem in a silk bag, and calling a crow that was flying past, asked the bird to deliver the gem to his beloved. Crows had milky white feathers in those days and it was considered auspicious if a crow came anywhere near you. So the Sun was pleased  that he had found a crow to deliver the gem. As the crow to sped through the sky with the silken bag, the aroma of food lured him. Looking down the crow saw that a wedding feast was in progress, and immediately it was distracted from its mission. Food was one thing it could never resist!
Alighting on a tree nearby, it hung the bag on a twig and went off to find some food. While the crow was feasting, a merchant passing by saw the bag on the tree, and knocked it down with a pole. When he opened the bag and saw its content he almost swooned in joy. Quickly pocketing the ruby, he filled the bag with dry cow dung that was lying there, and then deftly returned the bag to the branch. It was all done so quickly that the crow missed all the action. After having its fill, it flew up to the tree, and picking up the bag took in to the person it was intended for. The princess was in the garden. When the crow gave her the bag, she took it eagerly, knowing that it was form the Sun. But When she saw its contents she reeled back in shock and anger. Believing that it was the Sun’s way to telling her that he did not care of her, She flung the bag away, rushed  to her palace, and never come out again. When the Sun learnt of what had happened he was furious. So great was his anger that when he turned his scorching gaze on the crow, its feathers were burned black. It’s feathers have been black ever since. The ruby did not stay with the man who stole it. If fell out of his pocket and rolled into a deep pit. Men have been found in the process, making Myanmar one of the richest sources of rubies and sapphires, but the ruby that the Sun sent to the princess is yet to be found.

Friendship Story : An Elephant & A Dog

Friendship of An Elephant & A Dog

Once upon a time, there was a royal elephant which used to reside in the premises of the king’s palace. The elephant was very dear to the king, so he was well-fed and well-treated. There was also a Dog who lived near the Elephant’s shed. He was very weak and skinny. He was always fascinated by the smell of rich sweet rice being fed to the royal elephant. Friendship Story.
One day, the dog could no longer resist the aroma of the rice and somehow managed to sneak into the elephant’s shed. He eat the grains of sweet rice that fell from the Elephant’s mouth. He liked the rice so much, that he started going there daily to eat the rice. For days, the huge Elephant didn’t notice the small dog as he was busy enjoying the delicious food. Gradually, the Dog grew bigger and stronger, eating such rice food. Finally, the Elephant noticed him and allowed him access to the food. Friendship Story.
The Elephant enjoyed the company of the dog and started sharing his food with him. They also started spending time with each other and soon became good friends. They ate together, slept together and played together. While playing, the Elephant would hold the Dog, in his trunk and swing him back and forth. Soon neither of them was happy without the other. They became great friends and didn’t want to be separated from each other. Friendship Story.
Then one day, a man saw the Dog and asked the Elephant-keeper, “I want to buy this dog. What price do you want for it?” The Elephant-keeper didn’t own the Dog, but sold it and extracted a sum of money from this deal. The man took the Dog to his home village, which was quit far away. The king’s Elephant became very sad after this incident. He missed his friend a lot and started neglecting everything. He didn’t want to do without his dear friend, so he stopped eating, drinking and even bathing. Friendship Story.
Finally, the Elephant-keeper reported this to the King; however he didn’t mention anything about the dog. The king had a wise minister, who was known for his keen understanding of animals. The king ordered the minister, “Go to the Elephant’s shed and fond out the reason for the Elephant’s condition.” The intelligent minister went to the Elephant shed and found the Elephant very sad. He examined the Elephant and asked the Elephant-keeper. “There is nothing wrong with this Elephant’s body, then why does he look so sad? I think this Elephant is grief stricken, possibly due to the loss of a dear friend. Do you know, if this Elephant shared a close friendship with anyone?”
The Elephant-keeper said, “There was a dog who used to eat, sleep and play with the Elephant. He was taken by a stranger three days ago.” The minister went back to the king and said, “Your majesty, in my opinion, the royal Elephant is not sick, but he is lonesome” without his dear friend, the Dog”. The King said, “You’re right, friendship is one of the most wonderful things of life. Do you know where that Dog is?”
The Minister replied, “Elephant-keeper has informed me that a stranger took him away and he doesn’t know his whereabouts”. The King asked, “How can we bring back my Elephant’s friend and make him happy again?” The Minister suggested, “Your Majesty, make a declaration, that whoever has the dog that used to live at the royal Elephant’s shed, will be penalized”. The King did the same and the man who had taken the dog, instantly turned him loose when he heard the proclamation.
As soon as he was freed, the Dog ran back as fast as he could, to the Elephant’s shed. The Elephant was so delighted to see the Dog that he picked his friend up with his trunk and swung him back and forth. The Dog wagged his tail, while the Elephant’s eyes sparkled with happiness. The King was content to see the Elephant happy once again and rewarded the minister for his wise judgment.

Clever Rabbit

Clever Rabbit

Once upon a time, there lived a cruel Lion, in a dense forest. He was very powerful, ferocious and arrogant. He used to kill the other animals in the forest to gratify his hunger. His behavior caused the other animals in the forest to worry. They were worried that after sometime none of them would be left alive. They discussed their problem amongst themselves and decided to hold a meeting with the Lion.

One day, as per the plan, all the animals of the forest gathered under a big tree. They invited the Lion, the king of the forest to attend the meeting. In the meeting, the representative of the animals said, “Your majesty, we are grateful, that you are our king. We are all the more happy that you are attending this meeting.” The Lion thanked them and replied, “What is the matter? Why have we gathered here?” One of the animals stood up and said, “Sir, it is natural that you have to kill us for food. But, killing more than what is required is not a good approach. If you go on killing the animals without any purpose, very soon a day will come, when there will be no animal left in the forest, “ The Lion roared, “So what are you proposing?” one of the animals replied, “Your majesty, we have already discussed the problem among ourselves and have come up with a solution. We have decided to send one animal daily to your den. You can kill and eat it, the way you like. This will also save you the trouble of hunting.” The Lion replied, “Fine. I agree to this proposal, but make sure that the animal reaches me on time, otherwise, I will kill all the animals of the forest.” The animals agreed.

From that day onwards, an animal was sent to the Lion daily to become his meal. The lion was very happy to have his food right before him without taking any pains of hunting. A day came when it was the turn of the rabbit to go to the Lion’s den. The rabbit thought of a plan that would save his life and the lives of the other animals in the forest. He took his own sweet time to go the lion and reached the Lion’s den a little later than the usual time.

The Lion was getting impatient and he was extremely furious when he saw a small rabbit for his meal. He swore to kill all the animals. The rabbit with folded hands hesitatingly explained, “Your majesty. I am not to be blamed for my delay. Actually, six rabbits were sent to make your meal, but five of them were killed and devoured by another lion.” He also claimed to be the king of the forest. I have somehow escaped to reach here safely.

The Lion howled in great anger and said, “Impossible, there cannot be another king of this forest. I’ll kill him. Take me to the place where you saw him. “The intelligent rabbit agreed and took the Lion towards a deep well, filled with water. When they reached the well, the rabbit said, “This is the place where he lives. He might be hiding inside.” The Lion looked into the well and saw his own reflection. He thought that it was the other Lion. The Lion was furious and started growling. Naturally the image in the water, the other Lion, was also equally angry. In order to kill the other Lion, he jumped into the well and drowned. Thus, the jubilant rabbit saved all the animals from the Lion and they all lived cheerfully thereafter.

Inspirational English Story : Clever Raghu

Raghu had been orphaned when he was quite young so he had learned to fend for himself. One day he was very hungry. Wondering what to do, he happened to pass a sweet shop and heard the shopkeeper tell his young assistant, “Look after the shop while I take a nap. Call me only if something important comes up.” Raghu smelt an opportunity. He waited for a short time and then entered. “I am the owner’s best friend’s son. Give me the best sweets in the shop.” The boy was suspicious and asked him his name. “My name is Fly.” said Raghu helping himself to some jalebis. As he sat eating, the boy ran to the owner, “Fly is eating sweets. What should I do?” the sweet shop owner was in deep sleep. He mumbled, “How much a fly can eat? Let him be.” Then he turned over and started snoring loudly. The poor boy could do nothing and watched him demolish a plate of jalebis. Finally Raghu took two boxes of the best sweets in the shop and left without paying.

These boxes he presented to Mahadev saying, “Here is a present for our city’s greatest man. Please accept this. I am a poor man and have nothing else to give you.” Seeing the box full of expensive sweets, Mahadev, who rarely parted with money, was delighted. “Sir,” continued Raghu, I have only one request. My I have the empty boxes please?” Mahadev was only interested in the sweets so he said graciously, “Of course. Ask my wife to give you two vessels for the sweets.” Raghu went to Mahadev’s wife and said, “Your husband has asked you to give me two gold coins.” The woman who was cooking lunch was astonished and said, “Are you out of your Mind?” My husband would never say such a thing!” So Raghu called out to Mahadev, “Your wife is refusing to give me what I asked for.” Mahadev was negotiating a handsome deal in his shop. Irritated by the disturbance he called out, “Give him what he wants.” So Raghu left with the gold coins in his pocket.

Days went by and Raghu made his living through his smooth talk and tall promises. The king heard about this. Raghu was brought to him under arrest. The king heard his story in silence and then said, “Since you are so clever study with the best pundits in the land. Use your wits for the betterment of the kingdom.” Raghu was silent. No one had praised him or offered him a better life before. He accepted the king’s terms and one day came to be known as one of the wisest of his ministers.

English Story : Merchant and his Wives

Merchant and His Wives

A famous blog that contains a large number of inspirational motivational short stories for children and kids. You can read here best short story with a moral.

Once upon a time, there was a rich merchant who had four wives. He loved the fourth wife the most and adorned her with rich robs and treated her to delicacies. He took great care of her and gave her nothing but the best. He also loved the third wife very much. He was very proud of her and always wanted to show her off to his friends. However, the merchant was always in great fear that she might run away with some other man. He loved his second wife too. She was a very considerate person, always patient and in fact was the merchant’s confident. Whenever the merchant faced some problems, he always turned to his second wife and she would help him out and tide him through difficult times. Now the merchant’s first was very loyal partner and had made great contribution in maintaining his wealth and business as well as taking care of the household. However, the merchant did not love the first wife and although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice for her.
One day the merchant fell ill. Before long, he knew that he was going to die soon. He thought of his luxurious life and told himself, “Now I have four wives with me. But when I die, I’ll be alone. How lonely I’ll be!” Thus, he asked the fourth wife, “I loved you most, endowed you with finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I’m dying, will you follow me and keep me company?” “No way!” replied the fourth wife and she walked away without another word. The answer cut like a sharp knife right into the merchant’s heart. The sad merchant then asked the third wife, “I have loved you so much for all my life. Now that I’m dying, will you follow me and keep my company?” “No!” replied the third wife. “Life is so good over here ! I am going to remarry when you die !” The merchant’s heart sank and turned cold. He then asked the second wife, “I always turned to you  for help and you’ve always helped me out. Now I need your help again. When I die, will you follow me and keep company?” “I’m sorry, I can’t help you out this time!” replied the second wife. “At the very most I can send you to your grave.” The answer came like a bolt of thunder and merchant was devastated. Then a voice called out, “I’ll leave with you. I’ll follow you no matter where you go.” The merchant looked up and there was his first wife. She was so skinny, almost like she suffered from malnutrition. Greatly grieved, the merchant said, “I should have take much better care of you while I could have!”
Actually, we all have four wives in our lives. The fourth wife is our body. No matter how much time and effort we lavish in making it look good, it’ll leave us when we die. Our third wife is our possessions, status and wealth. When we die, they all go to others. The second wife is our family and friends. No matter how close they have been to us when we’re alive, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave. The first wife is in fact our soul, often neglected in our pursuit of material, wealth and sensual pleasure. It is actually the only thing that follows us wherever we go. Perhaps it’s a good idea to cultivate and strengthen it now rather than to wait until we’re on our death bed to lament.

Motivational Inspirational Short Story Clever BusinessmanIn the town of Agra there lived a rich businessman. But he was also quite a miser. Various people used to flock outside his house everyday hoping for some kind of generosity, but they always had to return home disappointed. He used toward them off with false promises and then never lived up to his words. Then one day, a poet named Raidas arrived at his house and said that he wanted to read out his poems to the rich man. As the rich man was very fond of poetry, he welcomed him in with open arms.
Raidas started to recite all his poems one by one. The rich man was very pleased and especially so he heard the poem that Raidas had written on him. In those days it was a custom for rich men and kings to show their appreciation through a reward or a gift, as that was the only means of earning that a poor poet possessed. So the rich man promised Raidas some gifts and asked him to come and collect them the next day. Raidas was pleased.
The next morning when he arrived at the house, the rich man pretended that he had never laid eyes on him before. When Raidas reminded him of his promise, he said that although Raidas was a good poet he liked the poem which was written on him and the rest of the poems were very ordinary. He also said that he had earlier promised a reward to Raidas not because he was really pleased or impressed, but to simply encourage him. Raidas was extremely upset, but as there was nothing that he could do, he quickly left the house. On his way home he saw his brother Kuber riding a horse. So he stopped him and asked for his help after narrating the whole incident. Kuber took him to his own house in order to come up with a plan. After giving it some thought he asked Raidas to go to a friend’s house with five gold coins and request the friend to plan a dinner where the rich man would also be invited. He then narrated his plan to him.
Raidas had one trustworthy fried whose name was Mohan. So he went up to him and told him the plan. The next day, Mohan went to the rich man’s house and invited him for dinner. He said that he intended to serve his guests in vessels of gold, which the guests would get to take home after the meal. The rich was thrilled to hear this and jumped at the offer. After the rich man arrived at Mohan’ house, he was surprised to see no other guests there but Raidas. Anyhow, they welcomed him in and started a polite conversation. The rich man had come on an empty stomach and so was getting hungrier by the minute.
Finally at midnight the rich man could bear his hunger no longer and asked Mohan to serve the food. Mohan sounded extremely surprised when he asked him what food he was talking about. The rich man tried to remind him that he had been invited for dinner. At that point Raidas reminded the rich man of the same treatment that he had meted out to him. The rich man realized his mistake and begged for forgiveness. He said that Raidas was a good poet and had not asked him for any reward. He himself had promised to give him some gifts and they cheated him out of them. To make up for his mistake he took out the necklace that he was wearing and gifted it to Raidas. Then they all sat down to eat a happy meal.

The yearly festival was close at hand. The store room was packed with silk fabrics, gold ornaments; clay bowls full of sweet curd and platefuls of sweetmeats. The orders had been placed with shops well in the advance. The mother was sending out gifts to everyone.
The eldest son, a government servant, lived with wife and children in far off lands. The second son had left home at an early age. As a merchant he travelled all over the world. The other sons had split up over petty squabbles, and they now lived in homes of their own. The relatives were spread all across the world. They rarely visited. The youngest son, left in the company of a servant, was soon bored left her and stood up the door all day long, waiting and watching. His mother, thrilled and excited, loaded the presents on trays and plates, covered them with colourful kerchiefs and sent them off with maids and servants, the neighbours looked on.
The day came to an end. All the presents had been sent off.
The child came back into the house and dejectedly said to his mother, “Maa, you gave a present to everyone, but you didn’t give me anything!”
His mother laughed, “I have given all the gifts away to everyone, now see what’s left for you.” She kissed him on the forehead.
The child said in a tearful voice, “Don’t I get a gift?”
“You’ll get it when you go far away.”
“But when I am close to you, don’t I get something from your own hands?”
His mother reached out her arms and drew him to her, “This is all I have in my own hands. It is the most precious of all.”

As the priest lay on his deathbed, he called the trustee of the temple and told him, “After my death, make sure that only a “Human Being” replaces me as the priest of this temple.” As soon as he said these words, he died. Information travelled far and wide that the head priest of the famous temple had died and now there was an urgent need for a replacement. A day was set for the selection of the successor. That day, starting dawn, aspirants started trekking the steep and torturous climb to the temple. The route to the temple was indeed difficult; it was full of thorns, and stones. By the time most people managed to reach the temple. They had received minor cuts and bruises on their feet and hands.
After breakfast, the selection process started. The trustee asked all the aspirants to recite difficult shlokas, or verses from the sacred texts, and explain various procedures of priesthood. By afternoon, as the selection process was about to end, one young man walked slowly into the temple. The trustee noticed him and said, “Young man, you are very late. What took you so long? And what happened to your clothes, “Why are they torn? Your feet and hands are bleeding so badly.” The man replied, “I know sir, I am late, so I will not participate in the competition. If I have your permission, I will just get my wounds treated, rest for a while and they go back to my village.” But the trustee was curious to know about this man. He asked again, “But how did you manage to hurt yourself so badly, did you not follow the same route as the others?” “Yes sir, I did,” replied the man. “But I thought I must remove the thorns and other sharp stones from the path so that when people come to pray in this temple they must not get hurt. That is why I got late and that is how I hurt myself. I apologize for the delay, but as I said, I know I am late and hence I don’t wish to participate in the competition. It will not be fair to the others if I participated.” Hearing this, the trustee smiled and said, “Congratulations, you have been chosen. I am sure that when our noble priest was dying and he said that he wanted a “human being” to be his successor, he meant that he wanted someone like you. “This statement infuriated the other participants. “What do you mean?” they demanded. “Are we not humans?  This man just said that he did not wish to participate. How can you choose him as he has not gone through any of the tests?”
The trustee replied, “Our old priest used to say that even animals know how to watch for their self-interest; they know how to avoid danger, search food and so on. Only a “human being” knows how to watch for other people’s interests and wellbeing. All of you climbed the same torturous path. But only this man thought about the others and cleared the path so that no one would get hurt. By this definition, only he qualifies as a “Human Being” and hence only he should be the successor of the great old priest.”

Govind’s father was a rich landlord, who was loved and respected by all his tenants. When he died, he left large tracts of land to Govind. But Govind did not spend a single day looking after his land. He had a funny idea, that there exists a magic potior which, if it was poured on any object would turn it into gold. He spent all his time trying to learn more about this potion. People took advantage of him and cheated him. His wife grew anxious. Given the amount of money Govind was spending, she was sure that they would soon be paupers.
One day a widely respected sage who had to Himalyas came to their town. Govind asked him about the potion. To his surprise the sage answered, “I have learnt how to brew such a potion. But it is a difficult process.” “Tell me!” insisted Govind, hardly able to believe his luck. “You have to collect the dew which settles on the leaves of a banana tree every morning during winter. There is a conditional though. The tree should be planted and watered regularly with your own hands. Store the collected dew in an earthen vessel and when you have five liters, bring it to me. I will recite a sacred mantra to transform the dew into the potion. A drop of the potion will be sufficient to change any object into gold.”
Govind was worried. “Winter is for only a few months in the year. It will take me years to collect the dew.” “You can plant as many trees as you want,” replied the sage. Govind went home and after talking to his wife, began clearing the large fields which has been lying vacant for years. He planted rows of banana saplings. He tended them with great care. His wife helped him too. She would take the banana crop to market and get a good price. Over the years the plantation grew and finally after six years Govind had five liters of dew on a copper vessel. To Govind dismay, nothing happened.” “You cheated me!” he shouted at the sage.

Motivational Kids Story : Stolen Ruby

Stolen Ruby

This Inspirational and Motivational Short Story is written for Kids and children. This Inspirational Story is about a stolen ruby. This Kids story motivates children not to stole anything.

Inspirational Story : Emperor's Cat

Emperor’s Cat

A Blog that contains a huge collection of Inspiration and Motivational Short Stories for Kids and Children. This Inspirational Story is about a emperor's cat. You will find This story full of inspiration and fun.

Once, a rich merchant presented a beautiful cat to the Emperor of China. Eventually, the emperor became fond of the animal and took it with him wherever he went. Everywhere, people kept asking the emperor, what was the cat named and everyone was surprised, when told, that it had no name. As time progressed, the emperor realized that the cat should have a name thus he decided to find a suitable name for his pet. He called his ministers; the seven wisest men in his empire, and commanded them to find a suitable name within seven days. The ministers were warned that if they do not succeed in finding a name by the end of 7 days, they will be punished. Also, the minister whose suggestion will be accepted will receive hundred gold pieces. Motivational Story.
The ministers did a lot of research on names that would suit the emperor’s, favorite pet.  At the end of this period, they were summoned to the palace again, and asked for their suggestions. The youngest of the group thought he had found the perfect name. “Tiger !” he announced proudly, “Your majesty, as we all know tigers are powerful, animals, it would be the best name for your pet cat. “Good name,” said the emperor, after a moment’s reflection. “The tiger is not only a noble and powerful beast but it is also known as the cat’s cousin,” added the emperor.                                     Inspirational Story.
“Noble, perhaps,” said the second minister, “but it is not as powerful as the dragon. Can a tiger soar into the sky? No, but a dragon can! I think DRAGON would be a more suitable name for the cat.” As the emperor was contemplating the name DRAGON, the third minister said, “Clouds can go higher than dragons. A cloud is more powerful than a dragon. Let’s, call it CLOUD.” “Let’s not be hasty,” advised the fourth wise man. “Clouds may fly high but they are pushed around by winds. Winds are more powerful than clouds. WIND would be the most appropriate name for a great emperor’s pet,” the emperor was still not satisfied with the suggestions. “WIND?” said the emperor, doubtfully. “Isn’t there anything better?” The fifth wise man took this opportunity to give his suggestion. “BRICK WALL!” he exclaimed. “Why should You name your cat BRICK WALL?” asked the emperor with astonishment as it was the most unusual name he had heard till now. “A brick wall can stop the wind, however powerful,” explained the fifth minister. “A brick wall is more powerful than wind!” “Oh, I see,” said the emperor. “Well, BRICK WALL is not a bad name. But isn’t it a bit long?” “I have a shorter name,” said the sixth minister “RAT”. Everyone started laughing at this suggestion. “So you suggest that I must call my cat RAT?” The sixth minister replied, “Yes, Your majesty, RAT! A rat can eat through a brick wall, which makes it more powerful than the wall, more powerful than the wind, more powerful than all the suggestions given to you.” “I get your point,” interrupted the emperor, “but can, you call a cat, RAT?”
“Indeed you can’t!” piped up the seventh wise man who was the eldest among all seven. “A cat is a cat. How can one call a cat RAT? Also if a rat is more powerful than the others the cat is even more so because it is mightier than the rat.” The emperor was impressed with the seventh minister’s suggestion and decided to accept it. So the royal pet remained nameless in a way because from then on it was simply called CAT. But the minister who suggested this name was rewarded as promised.
